The Wisconsin Braille Refresher Course
The WIsconsin Braille Refresher Course will begin at 8:30am on Monday, August 5, 2019. Please arrive a few minutes early
The course will be held at Lakeland School, W3905 County Road NN, Elkhorn, WI 53121.
The Course will run through Thursday August 8, 2019.
It is your responsibility to provide all necessary equipment. You may need:
- braille writer
- regular dictionary,
- copy of the Rules of Unified English Braille, Second Edition, 2013 Code book
- 28 cell slate, stylus and eraser.
You may also bring hard copies of the Nemeth Code for Mathematics & Science Notation, 1972 Revision and Guidance for Transcription Using the Nemeth Code within UEB Contexts. You can find them at http://brailleauthority.org/mathscience/math-science.html.
Braille paper will be provided.
Lunch will NOT be provided. Please plan accordingly.
There is a registration fee of $100.00 for the Refresher Course.
The WI Braille Competency Exam.
The WI Braille Competency Exam will begin at 8:30am on Friday, August 9, 2019. Please arrive a few minutes early.
The course will be held at Lakeland School, W3905 County Road NN, Elkhorn, WI 53121.
The Competency Exam is in UEB format and consists of four sections:
- Rules and Usage
- Proofreading
- Braillewriter
- Slate & Stylus.
You may register for as many test sections as you wish. You must pass each section in order to be eligible for licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (#825) through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI). If you have successfully passed each section of the Competency Exam, you are not allowed to take it again.
