Join WI DPI Social Studies consultant Kris McDaniel and Sam Goldberg, Director of Education for the Nathan & Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center (HERC) for a visit to the second-largest Holocaust museum in the country, the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center (ILHEC).  This trip is meant for Wisconsin teachers, and the focus will be on place-based learning and how to use field trips for students to meet Wisconsin Social Studies Standards.  We will have a draft template to help us build an experience for students.

The ILHEC https://www.ilholocaustmuseum.org/ is an amazing museum and cultural center for learning about the Holocaust.  They also provide many resources for teachers, including travel trunks with resources and books that they will send to districts free of charge.  We will view their standing exhibit, the Zev & Shifra Karkomi Holocaust exhibit, see the "Take a Stand" center, and experience the interactive hologram exibit "Survivor Stories". In addition, there is a brand new exhibit, the Spagat Family Voices of Genocide Exhibition, which explores how and why genoicde continues to occur across time and geography.

We will provide lunch.  Teachers will need to provide their own transportation to Skokie, IL.
